The engine in our test vehicle is not new, but it has been around for a while now. When we first got this car, there were already several videos online showing off all of its tricks. It was definitely seen as popular because it seems to be very well respected by other performance enthusiasts!

It is also relatively inexpensive which always helps win over admirers. If you are looking to get into drag racing or want to upgrade your current ride, then this article will show you some hard numbers that tell us how much horsepower this engine can handle.

We calculated what this engine’s NED (no explosion device) limit is and what modifications need to be made to push past that limit. After finding out how many red lines the engine would run before exploding, we computed an approximate value for how much power this engine can pump out.

When it comes to figuring out how much power your car can handle, there are two main components: torque and horsepower.

Torque is simply the amount of force that you create with your vehicle. Take some heavy furniture down the street and you’ll see what I mean! The harder you push, the more momentum you will generate, and thus, the faster you will go. Torque is important because it depends on three things: speed, gearing, and weight.

Gearing refers to the ratio between the diameter of the wheel and the length of the drive shaft. A lower gear ratio means longer gears which creates a bigger difference in distance for every increase in speed. This makes your engine burn more gas per mile than if you were using higher geared cars.

Weight also plays an integral part in determining torque. If you drag your feet while getting into your car, then you will have less thrust or pull- starting off on a bad foot!

Power is the other major component of automotive performance. Power is measured in horsepowers (HP). One HP equals one pound of pressure applied over 1⁄10th of a second. Technically speaking, one horsepower equals 0.1 pounds of pressure per minute.

Your engine’s horsepower is determined by two factors: the size of the pistons and the gap width between them and the cylinder head.

When it comes down to it, most people get confused when talking about horsepower. This is not surprising as there are so many different ways to define this number!

A simple way to understand power is to think of it like how fast your car can go in a straight line. More powerful cars will be able to go faster than less powerful ones- just because they are capable of going much quicker.

This doesn’t tell you anything about how efficient these vehicles are or whether they use too much energy to operate, but it does give you an idea of what a vehicle is capable of doing. It also gives you an idea of how fast a vehicle can potentially reach if you increase the speed at which it travels.

It is very important to remember that increasing engine RPMs (revolutions per minute) requires more fuel! As such, we need to look at both ato determine how much power a vehicle has and how much fuel it uses to consume all of that power.

Why is horsepower important

While some people spend their lives trying to increase their car’s top speed, which is great for doing donuts, it isn’t really practical or efficient. After all, most drivers use their cars for things other than going as fast as possible!

Mostly, drivers use their vehicle for getting around town, running errands, traveling to work, and maybe even cruising. Unfortunately, your engine wants to keep up with that kind of activity!

So how much power does your engine have? That is, you know how many watts your motor produces when it is functioning properly, but what about when it is not?

It is extremely difficult to gauge just how powerful your current engine is without having software that can test it, so we will have to make an estimate. Luckily, there are several ways to get an average number for this.

What is torque?

Torque is the push or pull force that comes from mechanical advantage.

A lot of cars these days have power windows, but they’re not common in older vehicles. Power windows are typically activated by using hydraulic fluid to move levers or rollers up or down. This requires an adequate supply of liquid hydraulics!

If you run out of liquid hydraulics, your car will lose all power to operate its windows. It also means your car won’t be able to use its other hydraulics, like those used for steering or braking.

That wouldn’t do anything good, would it? Luckily, there’s another way to open a vehicle door- motorized latch mechanisms. These work by using motors to rotate metal rods or bars, which then release the lock.

By having more than one source of torque, we can ensure that our engine, transmission, and doors stay working even if one component fails.

Torque is another important factor in determining how fast your car can go. As mentioned before, speed is proportional to force times time, so increasing either force or time will increase your top speed!

Torque comes from two main sources: engine horsepower and wheel torque. Engine horsepower refers to how much power the engine produces while being fed fuel and air, and wheel torque is simply referring to how strong your wheels are. The stronger the wheels, the more grip they have, which means you can push the vehicle farther with the same amount of torque!

The formula for calculating torque is mass (the weight of the vehicle) divided by distance squared. The average person does not have a good understanding of this concept, so let’s work an example using our car above. If we were to double the length of our drive shaft, then our car would be able to achieve one and half the acceleration it could now due to lack of drag.

When it comes to horsepower, how much power your vehicle can generate depends mostly on two things: torque and engine speed. As you increase either one of these, more powerful explosions occur!

Engine torque is simply the force that pushes down on the engine as it spins. This happens because every component in the engine (cylinders, pistons, valves, etc.) are moving towards each other while spinning at high speeds, creating pressure.

The higher this pressure becomes, the greater the friction between components is forced, which then produces additional torque. A lot of engines have computer programs that actively manage fuel injection and timing to maximize torque over RPM.

By doing so, they’re able to make more efficient use of combustion and produce enough thrust to get the job done quickly- thus, increasing top speed for the vehicle!

Tip: If you’re ever having trouble getting the most out of your car’s potential performance, check to see if there are any coolers or oil hoses that could be loosened up or removed to give the engine free access to intake air and spent gasses. This will also help reduce drag, improving acceleration.

You may also want to experiment with different gear ratios to find what works best for you depending on conditions. For example, when cruising around town, you might want to keep the wheels rolling as fast as possible to conserve gas, whereas going uphill or onto crowded roads requires some efficiency savings to balance against poor traction.

Horsepower and torque comparisons

However, while many people focus only on the horsepower number, you should be just as interested in how much torque the engine can produce.

Torque is the force that causes an object to rotate. In other words, it’s the strength of your engine. As such, we can say that a vehicle with more torque will perform better than one with less! By having more torque, the car will start and stop smoother, and take tighter turns without losing speed too quickly.

A lot of vehicles these days have very high horsepower but no significant increase in torque. This makes the car feel sluggish and slow even when the accelerator is pressed down hard. A quick way to determine if this is the case for your car is to look at the gear ratio. More gears mean longer lengths between changes so there are more opportunities to use torque.

Also, remember that all cars lose some efficiency over time? If a manufacturer has run several tests and found that their car is consistently performing well, they may include the information in sales material or online reviews. Read those sources to get an idea of what improvements have been made and what might still need working on.
